Employment & Labor Law
Parental leave allows a parent to suspend or reduce their professional activity to care for their child after a birth or adoption. In Luxembourg, its terms depend notably on the professional situation, working hours, and affiliation conditions.
It is important to distinguish the first parental leave, which follows maternity or adoption leave, from the second, organized within applicable age limits. The full-time, part-time, or split forms do not all meet the same conditions. The allowance is provided by the Caisse pour l’avenir des enfants.
Before choosing a formula, check your eligibility, the application schedule, and the rules concerning the employer. A late application may compromise the intended formula. Prepare the supporting documents and keep proof of exchanges. Parental leave is distinct from maternity leave and absences for a sick child: their purpose and formalities are not interchangeable.
