The A1 certificate certifies the social security legislation applicable to a person working in a cross-border situation under European coordination. For a Luxembourg employer temporarily sending an employee abroad, it allows documenting the maintenance of Luxembourg affiliation when the conditions for posting are met.
The application requires describing the mission, the countries, and its duration. The CCSS notably recalls the conditions related to the company's activity and the link with the employee. The ordinary European posting regime provides for a maximum duration of 24 months, under conditions: this figure does not constitute automatic authorization for any mission.
Before departure, check the situation with the competent body. The certificate deals with social security; it does not replace local posting formalities, nor residence or work permits. For regular activity in several states, consider the rules of multi-activity.
