Family reunification

Family reunification allows, under conditions, certain family members to join a third-country national legally residing in Luxembourg. The category of the permit held by the person already settled and the family link determine the regime to be examined.

The file notably concerns identity, the reality of the family link, resources, housing, and health coverage, with adaptations according to the situation. The procedure generally includes a residence permit before arrival, then the necessary steps to obtain the permit after entry into Luxembourg. A visa may also be required depending on nationality.

To prepare the application, first identify who is joining whom and on what basis. The formalities for family members of a European Union citizen should not be confused with this regime. Foreign documents may require translation or authentication; their preparation must precede the final organization of the move.
